The Story
I’m a self-taught artist living in the coastal resort of Cleethorpes, a place that you’ll probably recognise in many of my drawings. I rediscovered my love of art a little later in life after finishing a long and dedicated career in nursing. Drawing had always been my joy and aspiration since my school days, but life took me in a different direction for many years, before I finally found my way back to it.
Ive taught myself to draw using a digital pencil on a digital canvas, mainly working with drawing software called Procreate, and I love the freedom that digital art gives me. I often start with photographs or simple pencil sketches, then build up the image in layers, adding colour, detail and atmosphere as the picture develops.
I enjoy re-imagining familiar places and giving them a slightly different feel, mixing nostalgia with creativity to show everyday scenes in a new way. My work isn’t always strictly realistic, I like to use stronger colours and lighting to create something a bit more magical and eye-catching, while still keeping a sense of the place.
I’m always happy to create commissioned pieces to your own ideas or specifications, whether that’s black-and-white line drawings, full-colour scenes, collages, or illustrated maps. I enjoy working with people to produce something personal, especially when it involves places that mean something to them.
